Students may seek advisor approval for a credit overload. During Advent and Easter, students may register for up to 19 semester hours without special permission (up to 8 hours for the summer session), but occasionally, students may wish to pursue an overload to make up for a past semester underload, to accelerate their progress toward graduation, or to pursue an area of particular interest in a given semester.

For permission to overload, students must complete and return to the Office of the University Registrar the Request for Credit Overload form

Students must obtain their advisor's signature, and return the form to our office before the first course meeting day of the upcoming semester or summer session. Our office enters all approved overload permits on the morning of the first course meeting day each term. For Advent and Easter, students should prioritize their registration for four courses that they expect to fill during registration and reserve a course unlikely to fill which they add on the first class day of the semester.

For a semester, overloads in excess of 20 semester hours will be approved only in exceptional circumstances. For the summer, overloads in excess of 10 semester hours will be approved only in exceptional circumstances.
